Throughout 2021 we will be sharing with you some of the encouraging entrepreneurial stories, personal dreams, and insights into the lives of families around the globe who are struggling and fighting against adversity every single day. Our fifth story is about Viter Laban Peña from Peru.

Viter, what motivated you to start your business?

I was raised around agriculture, harvesting coffee in San Ignacio, Cajamarca. Life was too difficult there, so I decided to move to the city and start my own business – looking for better opportunities and to improve my health.

How did you start your business, when you arrived in Piura?

I started with 400 soles (around USD 120). It was enough for a small table with a few products, mainly spices and drinks – soda and water. Then I started to add more products with the intention to include a wider range of groceries. Eventually, I decided to buy my own stand in the market.
