This is My Story – Rajwadi
2021 is a very special year for BlueOrchard as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. Throughout 2021 we will be sharing with you some of the encouraging entrepreneurial stories, personal dreams, and insights into the lives of families around the globe who are struggling and fighting against adversity every single day.
Our eighth story is about Rajwadi from India.
Rajwadi is one of nine women who have undertaken a joint-liability group loan together in New Delhi,
India. The group meets every other week along with their credit officer to discuss their business activities and make loan payments, either with cash or via a cashless payment system.
Rajwadi, can you explain a little bit about the group loan and how it all works?
There are nine of us, all women, who run various businesses here in the city – from making clothes to farming and cosmetics. We are all neighbours and wanted to invest in our businesses so that we could expand and be more successful, but we didn’t need that much money individually and couldn’t access traditional forms of loans. We decided to apply for the group loan together, which means that we can access a bigger loan and then each use what we need for our individual businesses.
