This is My Story – Grace Kissiri
2021 is a very special year for BlueOrchard as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. Throughout 2021 we will be sharing with you some of the encouraging entrepreneurial stories, personal dreams, and insights into the lives of families around the globe who are struggling and fighting against adversity every single day.
Our seventh story is about Grace Kissiri from Tanzania.
Grace Kissiri started a cattle farming business in her backyard more than twenty years ago. What began with just a few cows has gone from strength to strength, and she has now expanded the operation to also include fish, pigs, beans, and maize. Grace is managing the entire family and is a very proud and independent woman, who has built her personal wealth from scratch by combining hard work and endurance with considerable patience.
Grace, you’ve been running this business for some time – have things changed for you over the years?
Looking back to the beginning, I was very young and already had several children. It was quite diffcult to pay for everything they needed without a stable business and I was just starting to set things up, so I wasn’t yet making as much money as I wanted. Working with a financial partner who trusted and supported me with a loan made all the difference. It allowed me to access credit facilities to expand my business more quickly than I would have been able to on my own.
