Gelong discusses the root causes of inequality and climate change, highlighting that these issues stem from the human mind—particularly our relentless pursuit of material wealth and external sources of happiness. He explains that genuine happiness is an inner state, which we can access by shifting our mindset and cultivating compassion through regular meditation. Referencing neuroplasticity, Thubten shows that anyone can develop greater empathy and kindness with intentional mental training. He asserts that compassion and happiness are natural to us, often obscured by stress and self-centredness, and that meditation helps us reconnect with these qualities. Concluding on a hopeful note, Thubten expresses confidence in humanity’s ability to evolve in consciousness and responsibility, believing that our capacity for harm can be redirected towards creating positive change.
