This week, we had the pleasure of speaking with Irakli Gamkhvetelashvili, Associate / Investment Officer, Analytics, based in Tbilisi, Georgia.
- Irakli, what do you enjoy most about working in BlueOrchard?
“It’s the multicultural environment and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from all over the world. The diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives creates a truly dynamic and enriching workplace. It fosters open-mindedness, creativity, and thoughtful discussions, which are especially valuable in a field as complex and nuanced as impact investing. It’s both inspiring and energizing to be part of a team that shares a common purpose, yet brings such a wide range of viewpoints to the table.”
- What motivates you?
“The sense of purpose that comes from working in a field where finance can be a tool for positive change. I find it truly meaningful to hear directly from clients about the progress they’re making — their stories highlight the real-world relevance of our work and remind me of the broader impact we’re contributing to. At the same time, I’m constantly learning. Each project introduces new perspectives, challenges, and lessons that push me to grow, both personally and professionally.”
- What is the biggest global challenge in your view?
“In my view, poverty remains one of the most persistent and deep-rooted global challenges. It goes far beyond low income—it affects access to education, healthcare, decent housing, and opportunities for upward mobility. What makes poverty especially complex is how it intersects with other global issues like inequality, climate vulnerability, and political instability, reinforcing cycles that are difficult to break.
Impact investing plays a critical role in addressing poverty by directing capital toward solutions that promote long-term, inclusive growth. By supporting initiatives like microfinance, affordable housing, and access to quality education and healthcare, it empowers underserved communities and fosters resilience.”
- What is your favourite book? Why?
“One book that deeply resonated with me is Tony Hsieh’s Delivering Happiness. From the perspective of creating long-term value, what stood out was how Zappos built its business around a culture of customer-centricity and exceptional service. The book emphasizes the importance of values-driven leadership, where success is not just measured by financial returns but by the positive impact on employees, clients, and the broader community. This focus on sustainable growth through people and culture aligns with how I approach investments—creating lasting, positive impact alongside financial success.”
Thank you, Irakli!
