Have you ever wondered who are the people behind BlueOrchard? As part of our #BOFaces series, we are happy to introduce Thibaud Ponchon member of our Private Equity team based in our Phnom Penh office. We have interviewed Thibaud to better understand what drives him and why he is passionate about impact investing.

Thibaud, why did you decide to work in impact investing? After having worked in finance in London for 7 years I wanted to use my financial skills to positively impact other people’s lives.

Why did you join BlueOrchard? I joined BlueOrchard because of its reputation as a leader in impact investing, the people who worked there that I knew personally and which I respected for their work ethics and commitment to social impact and the opportunity to join a new PE team and participating in the development of a new PE practice.

What do you like most about working in the impact investing industry? Working with people that are passionate about what they do.

What is the most memorable experience you have made during your time at BlueOrchard? When we signed our first equity investment in Asia. This is a time the whole team remembers proudly.

What do you enjoy most about working at BlueOrchard? Motivated people who want to have an impact on people’s lives in emerging markets.

How do you make an impact in your private life? I am financially sponsoring the education of a young Cambodian student including helping her develop critical thinking skills.

What motivates you? Working with people who share the same objective as me: improving people’s lives.

What is the most valuable advice you can give to people interested in impact investing? There are a lot of opportunities in various geographies and requiring a diverse skill set. So even if you are not sure you might have the right profile, do some research and apply!

What is the biggest global challenge in your view? Climate change is one of the main reasons for people in emerging markets to fall back into poverty.

Thanks a lot for sharing, Thibaud.
