#This is my story
My name is Moung Sokrat and I live in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. In the past, my husband and I were selling rice both at the market and directly to people’s houses. This business allowed us to live and save some money. However, as we grew older, the job became harder. Hence, we decided to do something with the money we had saved and with additional financial assistance.
Last year, we received a first loan form KREDIT Microfinance Institution Plc. The loan enabled us to build a new house with extra rooms to be rented out in order to generate additional income. The rooms were filled almost immediately allowing us to pay off the first loan faster than expected. Later, we applied for a second loan from KREDIT to do more rooms to meet the demand. The rest of the loan was spent on a coffee machine and other necessary materials to run a coffee shop in front of our home. Due to its convenient location, the great taste of our coffee and our affordable prices, our coffee shop attracts more and more customers every day.
The loans from KREDIT enabled us to generate enough revenues to completely stop the rice-selling business. Hence, it supported us in our career change. Our new businesses now allow us to have more time to relax and enjoy our old lives. Moreover, as entrepreneurs, we became good role models for our children.
