This Microcredit and Microfinance Glossary has been compiled by Hari Srinivas from different sources. While efforts have been made to include as many relevant terms as possible, there may be a few missing. Also, different sources may have defined the same term, and all of these have been included.

Habiba Ehlic, 62, cultivates mushrooms in a village near Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The revenues from her little business carried the family through while her sons were looking for work during the first years that followed the war.

Jennifer L. Dalida started a children's sandal production in her home in 2001. She now employs five persons and together they are able to fabricate 240 pairs of sandals daily for sale on local markets.

Amanda Guarín buys plain local cotton items and decorates them with her designs. She employs more than 20 other women, mostly heads of households.

Tsetsgee Batsukh, 46, founded the company Edelweiss Cashmere in 2004. She now employs 6 women full time in her workshop to make clothes from the finest hair of the Gobi desert goat.

Naimajon Boboeva runs a sewing shop specialising in the rich hand-made embroidery of Tajik wedding dresses. Thanks to the benefits of her workshop, she was able to pay for the best available education for her children.

The Barbas live off fishing and employ a number of relatives in their small business. In 2002, Cristina took a first loan for the family business to buy fishing nets. She is presently paying off her thirteenth microloan.

Tumenulzi, 28, married and father of two children of 4 and 6 years started fabricating the morinkhor in 1997. He is now able to produce 50 instruments each month three times more than when he started.
