How we operate
BlueOrchard Finance S.A. provides credit to microfinance institutions (MFIs), and BlueOrchard Investments Sàrl invests in the equity of MFIs and microfinance network funds. Both sister companies are based in Switzerland and have a presence in New York, USA, and Lima, Peru.
Building solid and lasting partnerships with MFIs
To establish reliable and sustainable portfolios, we focus on working with the world’s leading MFIs and we conduct a rigorous due diligence and assessment process to ensure that our partners meet our investment criteria. Our ongoing monitoring of these institutions means that our products deliver solid long-term returns.
We work closely with our partner MFIs and listen to their feedback and insights into the needs of micro-entrepreneurs. Combining this knowledge with our understanding of the needs of our commercial clients has enabled us to develop some of the industry’s most successful products.
Developing and managing a range of successful microfinance investment vehicles
Examples of our ground-breaking products include: the
Dexia Micro-Credit Fund , the first private worldwide and fully commercial microfinance investment fund; the
BlueOrchard Microfinance Securities 1 (BOMS1), the first Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO) to microfinance institutions in emerging markets; and our
BlueOrchard Loans for Development 2006 and
2007 (BOLD1 and BOLD2), BOLD2 being the first microfinance CDO to be publicly rated and which received the Financial Time’s ‘Sustainable Deal of the Year’ award in 2008. In 2007, we also set up the
BlueOrchard Private Equity Fund , in recognition of an important need for additional capital injections in the microfinance industry.
Earning positive social impact and good returns
BlueOrchard's proven track record has convinced an ever-growing number of MFIs and investors to choose the quality and profitability of a win-win investment that delivers stable and competitive financial returns and achieves socio-economic development in emerging markets by encouraging entrepreneurship at the micro level.
