Patrick ScheurleChief Executive Officer
Patrick Scheurle is Chief Executive Officer of BlueOrchard.
Prior to that, he held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the company for 3 years.
Patrick joined BlueOrchard from Bank Vontobel, where he was in charge of corporate business development and key strategic initiatives. He also held the position of Business Project Manager at Credit Suisse following various assignments as financial analyst and portfolio manager with major Swiss asset management companies.
Maria Teresa ZappiaChief Investment Officer
Maria Teresa has worked in the emerging markets finance sector for over 20 years. She has worked for several development banks and financial institutions (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank, Overseas Development Institute, and OECD Development Centre) based both in the field (Africa, South East Asia, and Central Asia) and in head-office. Before joining BlueOrchard, Maria Teresa worked as Senior Banker in the Group for Small Business which was EBRD’s microfinance and SME finance team and managed a portfolio of microfinance/SME credit lines with local commercial banks and MFIs across the Balkans, Central Europe and Central Asia. Maria Teresa joined BlueOrchard in 2008 to manage the investment team. As of 2012 Maria Teresa was appointed Chief Investment Officer and is now responsible for the top-down part of the investment process at BlueOrchard together with the Portfolio Management Team that she heads. Maria Teresa is fluent in French, English and Russian and has working knowledge of Spanish. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies from the University of Sussex (Distinction), and a Degree in Economics (BA & MA equivalent, 1st Class Honors) from the University of Florence (Italy).
Chuck OlsonChief Credit Officer
Chuck has worked in finance for over 20 years. After working as a Peace Corps volunteer with an MFI in the rural areas of the Dominican Republic, Chuck joined the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). He then worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as a bank examiner.
Later, Chuck joined the Bear Stearns credit risk management group. His most recent position before joining BlueOrchard was within the Global Social Investments group of Deutsche Bank.
He has an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and is a CFA charter holder.
Maxime BouanRegional Manager - Africa & MENA
Before joining BlueOrchard, Maxime worked as rating analyst at MicroRate, a microfinance rating agency, where he gained analytical competences in identifying key risks.
Prior to this, he worked in 2005-2006 on bank downscaling projects in Argentina for PlaNet Finance, where he learned about microfinance operations and dealt with strategic planning.
He is a graduate from Paris Dauphine University with a M.S. in Finance and Management Control.
Yolanda ChenetRegional Manager - Latin America
Before joining BlueOrchard, Yolanda worked for 10 years at the Peruvian Superintendency, where she held the role of Chief of Supervision of Microfinance Institutions. Prior to her tenure at the Superintendency, she worked as a research assistant in the Economics Department of Católica University.
Yolanda obtained a Master’s degree (Hons) in International Development with a focus on Development Finance from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom). She also holds a Master’s Degree in Finance from Pacifico University (Peru) and a BA in Economics from Católica University. She wrote her dissertation on the impact assessment of the regulatory framework on Peruvian microfinance institutions and has done fieldwork on regional development and microfinance in India.
Normunds MizisRegional Manager - Euroasia
Prior to joining BlueOrchard, Normunds worked for 18 years with the World Council of Credit Unions where he held a variety of Chief of Party and Project Management positions and performed multiple short-term consultancy assignments in Central and Eastern Europe and Asia.
He was also project manager of the Small Enterprise Development Program with the US Peace Corps/Baltics. Normunds has been a board member of several cooperative financial networks in CEE and Asia.
Normunds academic research at the University of Liverpool focused on microfinance for micro entrepreneurs and small businesses in Sri Lanka.
Pierrick BalmainDirector Business Development
Pierrick is a Business Development Director at BlueOrchard.
Prior to that, he was a portfolio manager at the company for 2 years.
Pierrick joined BlueOrchard from JP Morgan Asset Management where he worked as a Business Strategy Project Manager. He was responsible for business model and pricing initiatives across EMEA, Asia and Latin America regions.
He started his career as an entrepreneur in Grenoble (France), where he founded Mercari Finance; a consulting practice specialized in equity valuation.
Since 2012, he also teaches company valuation at University of Grenoble.
Pierrick holds an MBA from Ottawa University and a MSc from Audencia Business School.
He is also a CFA and CAIA charterholder since 2014.
Frédéric BerneyChief Risk Officer
Frédéric joined BlueOrchard after serving as Chief Risk Officer at Harcourt from 2003 to 2012, where he became a Managing Director following the acquisition by Vontobel in 2009. Previously, Frédéric had worked as Head of Risk Measurement at Sanwa International Plc (UFC-Mitsui) in London and held senior risk management positions at Credit Suisse in Zurich. In recognition of his extensive knowledge and experience in risk management, Frédéric was appointed Head of the Alternative Investment Regulatory Circle at the Swiss Fund Association SFA in 2010, a capacity in which he served until 2012. He is also the founder of Risk Alternatives, a specialized advisory firm based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Frédéric holds a Bachelor’s degree Economics as well as a Master in Banking and Finance from HEC Lausanne, Switzerland.
Ernesto CostaVice-President Private Equity
Ernesto has over 20 years of experience in financial markets. He has worked in M&A advisory, structured credit and investment management in a number of institutions including Goldman Sachs and HSBC in London, Towers Watson and Credit Agricole CIB.
He holds an MBA from IE Business School and is a CFA charter holder.
Patrick ElmerHead of Business Development
Patrick Elmer joined from Credit Suisse, where he was Head of Philanthropy Services and Responsible Investments, advising clients on innovative investment solutions that combine financial and social returns. He also lead the bank’s efforts in developing innovative partnerships and financing solutions to deploy public and private capital in areas like microfinance, education, agriculture and conservation finance. Before that, Patrick worked for many years in Mozambique, Tanzania and Madagascar, first managing the private sector development portfolio of SECO (Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs) and later establishing and managing microfinance banks on behalf of public and private investors. Earlier professional experiences focused on consulting and financing of start-up companies.
Patrick holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the University of St. Gallen and a Master’s degree on Developing Countries from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich.
Veronika Giusti-KellerHead of Credit Risk
Before joining the BlueOrchard team, Veronika worked at HSBC where she was part of a newly created Derivatives Pricing Project Team.
Prior to this she worked in Latin America for three years in a rating agency as a Senior Analyst, assigning ratings to financial institutions in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. During this period, she helped to develop the “Microfinance Rating Methodology” and was a key element in the research, elaboration and promotion of the new rating methodology for the microfinance sector.
Veronika holds an MSc in Economic Development from the University of Glasgow.
Felix HermesChief Operating Officer
Felix started off in Finance in 2002, gathering ample project experience at Oliver Wyman’s Finance & Risk and Corporate & Institutional Banking domains.
Before joining BlueOrchard, Felix served as Executive Director of Corporate Business Development at Bank Vontobel Asset Management and Private Banking.
Felix holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of St. Gallen.
Sébastien JuhenHead of Portfolio Management
Before joining BlueOrchard, Sébastien worked in Paris for nine years for Réunica, a major French institutional investor. He was responsible for portfolio management, asset-liability management, asset allocation and mutual fund selection in multiple asset classes.
Prior to this, he held various roles at Caisse d’Epargne des Alpes in Grenoble for two years in the asset management team. Sébastien travelled by bicycle for two years on the American continent from Alaska to Patagonia to meet MFIs and microfinance customers on the way.
Sébastien holds a Masters Degree in Management from Grenoble Graduate Business School and is a Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA).
Kazim Mohamed AliHead of Legal & Compliance
Prior to joining BlueOrchard, Kazim worked in the legal and compliance department of Credit Suisse in Zurich for their asset management business, specializing in alternative investments, particularly hedge funds, insurance linked strategies, private equity funds and energy infrastructure funds. Here he advised the business in legal and regulatory matters, negotiated contracts, set up new products and held an array of compliance tasks. Earlier in his career, Kazim worked for a large corporate law firm in Zurich in their Corporate/M&A department as well as for a small law firm specializing in immigration law, family law and criminal law.
Kazim holds a law degree from the University of Zurich (lic.iur.) as well as from King’s College, London (Diploma in Legal Studies) and is admitted to the bar of the Canton of Zurich.
Roger MüllerDirector Business Development
Roger started his career in finance in August 2008 as a Junior Sales International Clients with Julius Baer Asset Management which later became Swiss & Global Asset Management. In 2010, he became the Head of Sales Austria and took over the responsibility for all the relationships with institutional as well as wholesale clients. Beginning in 2012, he became the co-Head of Sales in Sweden as well as the Baltic States. In late 2013, he took over the responsibilities for accessing the following markets: Cyprus, Malta, Greece, Lebanon, and Jordan. He has joined BlueOrchard Finance SA in September 2014.
Roger holds a master of arts degree from the University of Zurich and has been a CAIA Charterholder since 2013.
Remo OswaldDirector Business Development
Remo joined BlueOrchard from Swiss & Global Asset Management in Zurich, where he was Director Sales & Distribution in charge of key clients. Prior to this, Remo held senior positions with BZ Fund Management, Horizon21, Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie and BNP Paribas Private Bank Switzerland, where he contributed significantly to business development in both Switzerland and Europe. His extensive experience with both institutional investors and UHNWI spans more than two decades and includes senior roles in equity brokerage as well as the incorporation, management and successful sale of an asset management company.
Remo holds a degree in business and economics from the Zurich Graduate School of Business Administration and has continuously pursued executive education throughout his career.
Ebony SattiHead of Investor Relations
Before joining BlueOrchard, Ebony worked at Hyposwiss Privatbank AG for more than five years as an assistant manager for Latin America. Her responsibilities included account management and administration as well as relationship management with clients and external asset managers.
Ebony holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration in Zurich.
Lisa SherkHead of Social Performance Management
Lisa has worked for nearly a decade of microfinance after more than 15 years of experience in emerging markets finance. She currently heads BlueOrchard’s social performance management efforts and was previously the Director of BlueOrchard’s investment team, with expertise in the areas of financial and credit analysis. She has worked as a microfinance consultant with international funders and donors in microfinance, as well as with MFIs in Bolivia, Peru and Mexico.
Lisa started her career in emerging markets asset management at Swiss Bank Corporation before becoming a Vice President at Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets and then serving as Managing Director at Atlantic Advisors LLC. She holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University.
Shawn WestcottDirector Business Development Nordics
Since 2011, Shawn has been a pioneer in the impact investing space in the Nordics, having initiated or led several of the programs focused on impact investing and social enterprise. Shawn initiated and Co-Founded Impact Invest Scandinavia, the first impact investing network in the Nordic region focused on funding sustainable enterprises and funds, in partnership with Toniic. He also previously served as European Business Development Director for Social Capital Markets (SOCAP). While Chairman of Social Entrepreneurship Forum, a Swedish-based NGO, he initiated and spearheaded the development of the first social business Incubator and accelerator program for entrepreneurs in emerging markets, in partnership with SIDA, Sweden’s international development agency. For this he was selected as one of the top 100 people to most affect the sustainability and CSR of companies in Sweden.
Shawn was previously a US political strategist, beginning with Al Gore’s campaign for President. He also has been a senior adviser in sustainability, developing and implementing sustainability strategies and multi-stakeholder engagement processes with local government, business, and third-sector organizations. He is a Trustee for The Awesome Foundation, an Adjunct Lecturer at Uppsala University on the subjects of sustainability, social business and impact investing, and sits on various boards of non-profit and sustainability-related organizations.
Shawn holds a Master of Science degree in Sustainability from the Blekinge Institute of Technology (Sweden) and a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh (USA).
